The private collection of Petar Smiljanić from Bjelovar is a little-known collection of modern, avant-garde, and contemporary art from Croatia and the region, fascinating in terms of the number, structure, and quality of the works. The collection period is from the beginning of the last century to the present and includes works from the early avant-garde to recent examples of contemporary art. A wide range of techniques, disciplines, and media (from painting and sculpture to installation, from magazines and author's books to photography, from graphic design, especially posters, to graphics) provides not only information about fundamental authors, movements, and tendencies but also offers the opportunity to get acquainted with some of the hitherto unknown works of our contemporary art.
The exhibition, which includes only a small percentage of the entire collection collected for exactly 35 years, was realized according to the concept of collector Petar Smiljanić and art historian Marijan Špoljar, in cooperation with the Town Museum of Bjelovar, with the support of the Town of Bjelovar and other sponsors, and the design contribution of Lana Cavar and others associates.
