Cold weapons from the holdings of the Town Museum of Bjelovar

The City Town Museum of Bjelovar owns over 200 examples of different weapons, a large number of which are melee weapons (a type of weapon that a person uses with his strength, the strength of his muscles) that are stored in the museum's collections (Collection of weapons, military equipment and militaria, the Barešić Collection and Collection of the Middle Ages), most of which originate from the period of modern history.

Although the Museum contains examples of cold (metal) weapons dating back to the Bronze Age (for instance, an excellently preserved sword of the Boiu-Kezthely type), the exhibition was limited to the presentation of cold weapons from the 16th to the 20th century, a period in which it is possible to make certain continuity between objects, taking into account that archaeological finds until the late Middle Ages are often sporadic.

The exhibition intended to present several examples of weapons (exhibits) that are in the holdings of the Town Museum in the Collection of weapons, military equipment, and militaria, and to briefly provide basic information about the history of these weapons. Given that the exhibition is of a smaller, informative nature, it was spatially limited and was limited to the display of objects from the Collection of weapons, military equipment, and militaria.

The said collection is diverse when it comes to military items, so it contains firearms and melee weapons (rifles, muskets, pistols, cannon and rifle cartridges, swords, sabers, bayonets, but also other military items, for example, caps, rank insignia, diplomas, military items and the like, and their total number in the records is 469). This collection forms part of the Historical Department of the Town Museum of Bjelovar.
