Gallery - Art through the eyes of masters

Gallery department

The Gallery Department of the Town Museum of Bjelovar deals with the systematic collection, processing and exhibition of fine art (painting, sculpture and artistic photography) as well as other related forms of visual expression. Founded within a museum with a large number of diverse collections interested in preserving the legacy of the town of Bjelovar and its surroundings, it contains the works of artists related to this area.

Repurchases and donations created a rich fund of over a thousand paintings, graphics, sculptures and artistic photographs united in ten collections. The most important collections are the Nasta Rojc Collection and the Vojin Bakić Collection, which also form an important segment of the permanent exhibition of the museum. These authors became key protagonists of the Croatian art scene of the 20th century, each in their own right and also remained tied to Bjelovar through direct work.

The other collections include the Native Collection, which is related to fine artists and pedagogues who were connected to the local environment by birth or activity (Ivo Friščić, Josip Zeman, Zlatan Vrkljan) and the Contemporary Art Collection, which includes a wide range of fine artists from the second half of XX and XXI century, who actively participated in recent art events.

The above collection is for the most part the result of quality gallery-publishing activities, as many of these works were strategically bought or donated after exhibitions organized in our gallery. Miroslav Šutej, Josip Vaništa, Edo Murtić, Omer Mujadžić, Vasilije Jordan, Milan Konjović, Nikola Koydl, Ferdinand Kulmer, Tihomir Lončar, Đuro Seder, Frane Šimunović, Antun Šojat, Zlatko Šulentić, Mladen Veža, Krešimir Nikšić and Nives Kavurić Kurtović are just some of the names that make up the classics of the Croatian moderna and contemporary art scene and whose works can be found in the collection.
