Internal freedom
The purpose and goal of the exhibition Internal Freedom* (of the artist) are to provide initial information about the content, character, and profile of the Smiljanić Collection, one of the possible insights into its size, number, and complexity. As the collection, that is, its parts, are being shown publicly for the first time, the responsibility of the exhibition is multiple, and it covers several levels of the exhibition - the set-up, from the organization to the presentation, from the involvement of the profession to the media coverage.
The collection of Petr Smiljanić, made up of several thousand items, with an extremely dominant collection of Croatian art, but also with works from some national areas of the former Yugoslav cultural space, in a broad historical-stylistic sequence, from early examples of modern art to recent modernism, from historical avant-gardes, post-war neo-avant-garde and post-avant-garde tendencies and in a wide range of procedures, techniques, expressions and media. Although widely set, the collection is extremely coherent, concentrating on examples of contemporary language procedures and experimental practices, as well as on innovative artistic concepts and time-appropriate technological and media expressions. That is why, in addition to the classical disciplines of painting and sculpture, a large part of the collection is dedicated to graphics, photography, posters, printed material (from avant-garde books to magazines), and video or sound media.
