Ethnology - Diversity of people and customs
Department of Ethnology
The most significant objects are related to textile handicrafts from various localities of Bilogora and northern Moslavina (pillowcases from Dautan from 1880, villani from the end of the 19th century, and carpets created between 1900 and 1920), a collection of two different types of women's headdresses with areas of Bjelovar-Bilogora County: the so-called špice (i.e. a collar made of lace on batiks) and poculica (in the form of a square cap richly decorated with colorful embroidery).
Some objects document the process of textile production from the beginning to the final process of weaving, i.e. the production of cloth, with a loom, tara, from 1856.
Among the small wooden objects, kepčia stands out, shepherd's cups made with the technique of deepening from a single piece of wood and decorated with engraving, with various geometric ornaments.
The collection of rural furniture documents the changes in the way of living and the organization of family life in this area from the period of cooperatives to the emergence of individual families (1850-1950).
In the department, a special collection is represented by ceramics by the self-taught sculptor Evica Pocrnić from Donja Kovačica and the legacy of Zvonimir Lovrenčević, collector of folklore treasures of Bilogora and Northern Moslavina.
The department also includes a collection of greeting cards and postcards, numbering over 4,000 copies with different themes (postcards of Bjelovar and settlements in the area of Bjelovar-Bilogora County, Easter, and Christmas cards), as well as a collection of ethnological souvenirs with over 100 examples of dolls from Croatia and the world.
